Our History

Our founder has always had a love of animals and started her crusade to save unwanted animals in her late 20's when she took in some rabbits.

Her collection rapidly grew as people continued to abandon their animals, in some cases even leaving them on her doorstep.

The number of horses who are made homeless when they have finished making money for their owner is sickening, and horrified at this waste of life she did all she could to rescue these unwanted horses from certain death.

To house her growing family she acquired some land and provided stables and fencing to create what is now Willow Tree Stables.

By 2001 she was exhausted from working 20 hours every day, caring for the animals by morning and evening, and holding down two jobs to meet the expenses.

Worried that she would not be able to financially fund her crusade any longer she welcomed the offer from two local ladies to take on the daily upkeep of the sanctuary and raise funds.

Hence the creation of this non-profit making organisation, and the launch of this website, in July 2001.
