Our History

The sanctuary founder began saving unwanted and abandoned animals in her late 20’s.  She did everything she could to rescue and home unwanted horses and ponies, ultimately acquiring the land where Willow Tree Stables now stand.  She cared for the animals single handedly as well as keeping two jobs to meet expenses.  After some years this began to affect her health, and in 2001 she welcomed an offer from two volunteers to fundraise and support the sanctuary as a non-profit making organisaiton.  The founder still has a huge input into the daily running of the sanctuary and remains wholly committed to the care and welfare of the horses, ponies and donkeys in her charge.
